Although married for only five years, 25-year-old A.A. has already been a victim of long-term violence. Several times, she tried to leave the abusive relationship, but the perpetrator’s promises, sweet words, expressions of love, gifts, and plans for the future managed to manipulate her and draw her back into the relationship. However, during the so-called “honeymoon phase,” she gave birth to a child, and immediately afterwards the “usual” pattern of daily abuse resumed. At one point, the violence escalated, and she finally found the strength to escape.
She heard about us through a friend, who immediately referred her to our organization. Within a short period of time, a criminal complaint was filed, and the perpetrator was placed in pre-trial detention for three months. We did not stop at filing the criminal complaint; on her behalf, we also submitted requests for protective measures, including eviction of the perpetrator from the apartment, restraining orders prohibiting him from approaching her and the child, and bans on harassment and stalking of both her and the child. Divorce proceedings were initiated, and a civil claim for compensation for non-material damages caused by years of violence was also filed.
Throughout this period, A.A. received psychological support, which is still ongoing, as the consequences of the prolonged abuse remain severe and the fear of the perpetrator is still present.
“Thank you for existing and for helping women get back on their feet!”
